Double Wheku - Bone
Double Wheku - Bone
This intricately carved Double Wheku shows the two interwoven Wheku which can represent two individuals.
The Wheku or carved face traditionally depicts the face of an ancestor. These are generally seen on the apex gable of a wharenui or traditional Māori meeting houses. The Wheku is then a representation of the person who the wharenui is named after.
