This beautiful Kowhaiwhai Jewellery Set are surgical steel coated in gold, silver or rose gold, ensuring that they do not tarnish easily and last a very long time.

Usually found on the tāhu (ridge pole) and or heke (rafters) in a wharenui (meeting house).  Very often they are used to represent the branches of whakapapa (genealogy), recording the lineage of whanau (family).

The can differ slightly from tribe to tribe.
